Install the Tie app for Klaviyo

T
Written by Tim Hughes

Connect Tie to Klaviyo to bring the shoppers Tie identifies, and their events and attributes, into your Klaviyo account. You can install from inside Tie or from the Klaviyo marketplace. Both end in the same connection.

Before you begin

If you have already connected Klaviyo inside Tie, you do not need to install again. Tie is already syncing, and you will see Tie profiles in your Klaviyo account. If you run more than one Tie organization, each one connects to its own Klaviyo account.

You need:

  • An active Tie account and subscription

  • The Admin role in your Tie organization

  • To be logged in to the Tie account you want to connect

  • To be logged in to the Klaviyo account you want to connect, as a user who is allowed to authorize third-party apps

  • No existing active Klaviyo integration on your Tie Settings, then Integrations page

Klaviyo does not depend on your domain setup, so you can connect it at any point, alongside the rest of your setup.

Install from Tie

  1. Log in to Tie and open the Integration Setup page.

  2. On the Connect Klaviyo card, click Proceed.

  3. You are redirected to Klaviyo. Select the account you want to connect.

  4. Click Allow to grant the permissions above and wait for the app to install.

  5. When the installation completes, the Klaviyo card shows Active.

Install from the Klaviyo marketplace

  1. Open the Tie app in the Klaviyo marketplace and click Install.

  2. Log in to your Tie account.

  3. Select the Tie account you want to connect to Klaviyo.

  4. Allow access to the account information.

  5. Wait for the installation to complete. The Klaviyo card in Tie shows Active when it is done.

Two more steps after the app is active

The connection carries your data. Your Tie team needs two more things to finish the setup behind it, and both happen in your Klaviyo account.

  1. Give Tie Manager access. In Klaviyo, go to Settings, then Account, then Users. Add [email protected] and your Customer Success Manager's email address, and set both to Manager. Manager is the level the team needs to do the work, and it cannot export your lists or add and remove users.

  2. Send one private API key. In Klaviyo, create a private API key named backupconnection and choose the Custom access level. Give it Full access on Accounts, Campaigns, Events, Flows, Lists, Metrics, Profiles, Segments, Templates, Tracking Settings and Web Feeds, the same areas as the permissions above, and No access on everything else. Klaviyo does not let you change a key's permissions later, so set them when you create it. Send it to your Tie contact with a single-use secret link, never pasted into email or Slack. We do not need your public key.

Confirm the integration is working

Check these once the Klaviyo card reads Active.

Look for Tie metrics. In Klaviyo, open your metrics list and search for Tie. Tie sends two families of metrics. Tie Prospect metrics, such as Tie Prospect View Item, are new shoppers Tie identified for you, and they usually appear first. Tie metrics, such as Tie View Item, are shoppers you already know, and they start once your Tie team finishes setting up your account. Your Tie contact lets you know when that is done.

Enrich a list. In Tie, open the Attributes tab and click Enrich New Audience. Choose the Klaviyo list to enrich, click Next, review the preview, click Next again, then Confirm. Go to the Enriched Audiences list and wait for the enrichment to show Completed, then click Send in the Klaviyo Sync Status column. When the status reads Sent, open one of those profiles in Klaviyo. It carries the new attributes.

What Tie sends to Klaviyo

Tie sends events you can trigger flows from and profile properties you can segment on, as shoppers browse your site. The full list of metric names, event properties and profile fields is in Klaviyo data reference: what Tie sends and reads.

Uninstall

  1. Log in to Tie as an Admin.

  2. Open Settings, then Integrations.

  3. Click Disconnect on the Klaviyo integration, then confirm on the popup.

The app is uninstalled. You can reconnect at any time from the Integration Setup page. To remove the access from the two follow-up steps as well, delete the Tie users and the backupconnection key in Klaviyo.
