Connect Attentive to Tie

What your team needs to do to connect Attentive and go live with Tie.

Attentive is connected with help from your Tie onboarding contact. You gather a few values in the Email + SMS card on your Onboarding page, send them to us from there, and we complete the connection on our side.

Open the Email + SMS card and choose Attentive as your provider, then work through the steps below.

Step 1. Choose which channels you run on Attentive

Pick SMS only, Email only, or Email and SMS. Your answer decides what the card asks for next.

  • SMS only. You need the API key and nothing else.

  • Email only or Email and SMS. You need the API key and a sign-up source.

Step 2. Create the API key

  1. In Attentive, create a custom app named Tie SMS integration. Attentive's guide covers the steps, Create and manage custom apps.

  2. Copy its API key.

  3. Paste it into the API key field on the card.

The API key travels securely when you send it from the card, so there's no need to email it to anyone.

Step 3. Create a sign-up source for Tie (email only)

Skip this step if you chose SMS only.

  1. In Attentive, go to Growth › Sign-up Units and create a new sign-up source for Tie. Name it whatever suits you.

  2. Find its ID. It's a short number of around seven digits, not a long key, and it isn't a secret.

  3. Enter it in the Sign-up source ID field on the card.

Please make a new one rather than using your main sign-up source. Attentive records which source each subscriber came in through, so a dedicated source is what lets you tell Tie's subscribers apart from everyone else.

Step 4. Select Send these to Tie

The card confirms with Sent to your Tie team. If you need to change anything afterwards, select Edit & resend.

Step 5 (optional). Send us your Attentive SFTP password

This is separate from the steps above and never holds up going live. It lets Tie use your recent Attentive activity to recognize more of your shoppers. Attentive hosts the SFTP connection and we already know the server address, so we only need the password.

  • Check first whether another tool uses this login. If one does, send us the existing password instead of resetting it, since a reset would break that tool's connection.

  • If nobody knows the password, ask Attentive's support team to link the SFTP login to a new email address, so a reset link reaches someone on your team.

  • Confirm two daily exports are switched on. email_sms, including the columns creative_id, creative_name, creative_type and creative_subtype, and conversions. If Attentive support is setting this up for you, forward them this line as it is.

The password doesn't go in the card. Send it to your Tie onboarding contact as a single-use secret link rather than pasting it into a shared channel or a plain email. The link itself is safe to send over Slack or email. How to send Tie your credentials securely walks through the options, and if none of them works for you, ask your Tie contact.

What happens next

Your Tie contact completes the Attentive connection on our side. Once Email + SMS is verified along with your domain and the Tie Pixel, Finish unlocks and you can go live. Meta and Google can be connected after that.
